How to Plan a Sermon Series Creative Package

A complete sermon series creative package is one master graphic broken into screen, social and print files, plus a short bumper video, delivered 3–4 weeks before the first Sunday in formats your team can edit. Start planning 6–8 weeks out.

Mission Creative is a church production and creative company, founded in 2004 by Dave Bookhout and Heredes Ribeiro and based in Tampa, Florida, that builds brands, sermon series and capital campaign creative, video, audio/video/lighting production systems, websites, and AI training and workflows for churches nationwide. This is the process we use.

  1. Step 1Get the big idea in one sentence (8 weeks out)

Ask the pastor for titles, dates, texts and the one change the series is after. For Epic Church's Make Room it was “We're not building a building. We're making room.” (see the Make Room case study)

  2. Step 2Write a one-page brief

Audience, tone in three words, must-use elements (logo, scripture), things to avoid, and every place the art will appear. Use our free Series Kit brief.

  3. Step 3Show two or three directions (7 weeks out)

A mood board per direction — type, color, texture, one hero image. Ask leaders to pick a direction, not a finished design.

  4. Step 4Build the master graphic (6 weeks out)

One 16:9 title slide every other file is cut from. Check it at thumbnail size and on a T-shirt if merch is possible.

  5. Step 5Cut the screen kit

Title slide, a background with no text (for lyrics and lower thirds), sermon-point slide, lower third, countdown or holding slide.

  6. Step 6Make the bumper video (5 weeks out)

30–60 seconds plus a 15-second cutdown. Four beats work: hook, why it matters, the picture of change, title reveal.

  7. Step 7Build the social and print pack (4 weeks out)

4:5 feed post, 9:16 story and reel cover, 1:1 square, website banner, invite card or poster. Schedule the teaser 2–3 weeks before Sunday one.

  8. Step 8Hand off editable files

Layered files your team can open in Canva or PowerPoint, plus a one-page guide (fonts, colors, do's and don'ts). Volunteers will make the week-three graphic you never saw; give them what they need.
