Turn One Sermon Into a Week of Content With AI

One recorded sermon can become three short clips, two quote graphics, a small-group guide, a devotional and a recap email in about two hours, using a transcript, an AI assistant and a template kit. The pastor approves anything that quotes him.

Mission Creative is a church production and creative company, founded in 2004 by Dave Bookhout and Heredes Ribeiro and based in Tampa, Florida, that builds brands, sermon series and capital campaign creative, video, audio/video/lighting production systems, websites, and AI training and workflows for churches nationwide. This is the workflow Mission Creative teaches in its AI workshops for church teams.

You need: the sermon recording, an AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini), a design tool with your series templates (Canva works), and a clip editor with auto-captions.

  1. Step 1Get a clean transcript (10 min)

Export captions from your livestream platform or run the audio through a transcription tool. Fix names and scripture references by hand.

  2. Step 2Pull the big idea and moments (10 min)

Paste the transcript and ask: “List the one big idea, five takeaways, and the five strongest moments with timestamps. Quote the pastor exactly; don't rephrase.” Check every quote against the recording.

  3. Step 3Cut three vertical clips (40 min)

30–60 seconds at 9:16 with burned-in captions. Open on the line, not the windup.

  4. Step 4Make two quote graphics (15 min)

Two exact quotes in your series templates at 4:5 (build them from the Series Kit Framework).

    One template system, many posts
  5. Step 5Write the small-group guide (15 min)

An icebreaker, five discussion questions and one practice, based only on the sermon text. Your groups pastor edits.

  6. Step 6Draft the devotional and recap email (20 min)

In your church's voice, linking to the full message. A person rewrites the first and last lines.

  7. Step 7Schedule the week (10 min)

    Use the posting plan below.

Guardrails

  • Never put words in the pastor's mouth — AI drafts, people approve.
  • Don't paste prayer requests or member data into public AI tools.
  • Write it down: Exponential's 2025 survey found 73% of churches have no AI policy.
